About Hervey Bay Jazz Club

The Hervey Bay Jazz Club had its humble beginnings on 10 February 2004, when a group of local jazz enthusiasts and musicians held an informal meeting to discuss what would need to be done to start a Jazz Club for Hervey Bay.  This group of about 10 people went on to form an Interim Committee to organise the first gig, which was held on Friday 30 April 2004 at the Playa Concha Resort.  Two of the musicians in the committee, Bob Carlson and Mike Knight agreed to donate their services for the night, and together with local musicians, Scott Curtis and Marsh Robinson, they formed 'Swing Shift'.

They played to a sell-out crowd of about 115 excited jazz fans and the Club has never looked back!!   By the end of that first night, the Club had signed up some 35 members and as they say the rest is history!
After only the next 2 months, we were forced to find a larger venue due the popularity of the night and moved to the Hervey Bay Hotel which has been our home ever since.

Since then we have held a regular monthly gig on the last Friday night of each month, several special large events (attracting over 200 guests each time), celebrated our first Birthday with a big party, and now have grown to a membership of 135.
